Kristof Roseeuw is a double bassist, improviser, composer and programmer. Active in Belgium and abroad since 1994, he has developed, from his classical training, a versatile artistic practice that brings together jazz, improvised and avant-garde music, classical music, folk, world music, rock, pop and music theatre.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous renowned musicians and ensembles, developing both his own projects and long-term collaborations. He is notably the leader of Fire In The Pet Store and 3Men & Sclavis, and a member of Peter Vandenberghe’s piano trio Too Noisy Fish. He has worked with international musicians such as Louis Sclavis, Mark Feldman, Edward Perraud and Pascal Schumacher. With Drawing Basses, he has also developed a distinctive participatory project in which the audience is directly involved in the process of musical creation.

Roseeuw is currently engaged in a multi-year artistic development and research programme, for which he has been awarded a development and research grant. Working with three renowned mentors — double bassists Michael Formanek and Robert Landfermann, and drummer Stéphane Galland — he is deepening and developing his personal musical language on the double bass. By exploring different parameters, he investigates new sonic possibilities, playing techniques, articulations and approaches to the instrument, with the aim of expanding and refining his own musical vocabulary.

Alongside his work as a performing musician, Roseeuw has been a part-time programmer for jazz and improvised music at Muziekcentrum De Bijloke since 2012. This dual position as an artist and programmer allows him to actively contribute to the development of the contemporary music scene.

His artistic journey is characterised by a continuous search for a personal sound, new approaches to playing and artistic crossovers, in which improvisation, research and composition continually influence one another.
