DRAWING BASSES

A concert composed entirely by the audience through visual scores.

Drawing basses. Or also: basses who draw. No coincidence, because creator and bassist Kristof Roseeuw is keen to bring together multiple disciplines in stimulating, interactive performances. Special angle: this time the audience decides what will be played. Not by shouting a round of requests, but by providing the score for the performance.

An arsenal of instruments will transform the space into a true sound lab. A variety of drawing materials are on hand. After a brief explanation of the graphic score and approach to the performance, the audience chooses their materials and gets to work. They draw their score in which creativity, originality and spontaneity are keywords. The concert starts: the game between audience and the Drawing Basses can begin. The interpreted scores are displayed on washing wires, an exposition created by the audience. They symbolize the evolution of this performance.

Experience how that translation happens, how different disciplines can shape each other, how surprised you will be to hear the result. Everyone – young and old, with or without musical background – can and may participate. Making music in its most accessible and collective form and…. you go home with your first graphic score. A concert in its most playful form!

DRAWING BASSES GOES INTERNATIONAL

After succesful performances at venues like Muziekcentrum De Bijloke, Flagey, Ha Concerts, multiple festivals like Brosella, Het BOS, and collaborations with organisations like KMSKA and Fedasil, it’s time for Drawing Basses to cross borders! As the languages of visual art and music are universal, this project can be performed anywhere in the world, as has been proven, for example, at Paribu Art in Istanbul, Türkiye.

For the organiser:

*Drawing Basses works for all audiences and ages. It is particularly effective with mixed audiences and we have also collaborated with specific groups such as museums, schools, refugees, art students, and music festivals
*It is important that the audience can be seated comfortably and that they can position themselves around the artists freely. A combination of pillows, sofas and chairs, for example, would be perfect in order for people of all ages to be comfortable

U kan ons als mieren doen zingen. 

Met strepen, lijnen en krassen vertolken wij uw grafische symfonie. 

Teken ons your worst nightmare of zoetste droom, wij laten die klinken in een lied zonder schroom. 

Zet onze instrumenten aan het dansen, zingen, brullen of 

bulderen als een leeuw, storm op zee, een zomerwind die aait, een monochroom kleur dat paait… 

Een woord of aanwijzing kan ons sturen, maar ook een scheur in het papier kan ons een muzikale klank op sturen. 

Gebruik uw fantasie,.. stuur ons een richting uit en aanhoor hoe wij die verklanken. Floink, splash, zwoiiiink, tuuuuuuuuuuut, het is een spel, beste mensen… allons y les adventures /// Dames en heren verras vooral uzelf en ons erbij, stuur ons of drijf ons in een bootje op zee stuurloos richting ontroering en ondergaande zon  ….een kwijlende parkiet, abstractie spectralisme een dansende mossel op een cirkuslied. 

Middeleeuwse ridders en muzen, stomende jazz, heavy metal punk een kwijlende hond of wat gezever,  werkelijk alles mag al ligt het op uw lever.
